'WWII: In Our Words' Gives PBS's 'The War' Series a Local Spin

San Antonio, TX/Berlin, DE (PRWEB) September 26, 2007 -- To compliment PBS's "The War" series, "WWII: In Our Words" focuses on native residents from San Antonio, TX and around the world. The documentary offers a bird's eye view into the war with the raw and telling insight of personal experience; an intimate look at the war and the people, from small town USA all the way to Nazi Germany.

"World War II: In Our Words is a production of the Alamo Public Telecommunications Council. This two-hour documentary, overseen by executive producer Charles Vaughn, is a collection of stories by people in this area who were alive during World War II. Some went to war while others supported the war from home. Since San Antonio, TX is a center of U.S. Air Force activity, and was also a key Army and Air Force training area during the war, many of our tales come from U.S. Airmen. We also have tales from the South Pacific by Marines and GI's; as well a woman who was detained by the Japanese in the Philippines when she was a young girl. These are not just war-stories; they are stories about life on the home-fronts." -- Producer Lee Dunkelberg

While there are many retellings of the Hellish bombing missions over Germany, this documentary paints a different side of the war, a canvass of raw humanity illustrating the bravery and pride of the people that were profoundly touched by the war. There is a tale of a young German girl who survived bombing raids on Berlin, then the story about the struggle of the African-American Tuskegee Airmen; their call to war would be two-fold, fighting the Luftwaffe, and battling prejudice from their comrades on the ground.

"It is not a history of World War II. It is like being in a family living room, listening to stories of your Grandparents, Aunts, and Uncles." - Lee Dunkelberg

"With so many documentaries relying on scholarly rhetoric and predetermined outsets, I saw this programs agenda as a more grass-roots effort." - Sekrett Scilensce

The two-part documentary will air September 27, 2007 at 7:00pm CST & October 4, 2007 at 7:00pm CST. With a multitude of contributors from around the world, this documentary should not be missed. If you are not in one of the surrounding broadcast areas and are interested in viewing this event, check with your local PBS station to obtain a copy of this program.

The documentary will feature the songs "The Eurasian Dawn" (Part I) and "June 6, 1944" (06/06/1944) by Composer Sekrett Scilensce, and also features a multitude of materials from contributors around the globe.
