Gateway Classical Music Society To Present "Great Works Of Art" Concert of Opera Highlights
Greenwich, CT (PRWEB) March 1, 2008 -- On Friday, March 7, 2008 at 8:00pm, the Gateway Classical Music Society will present a "Great Works of Art" concert of opera highlights featuring orchestral overtures, arias and ensembles by Beethoven, Bizet, Delibes, Donizetti, Puccini, Mozart, Verdi, Wagner and more. Featured will be returning soloists from the Gateway roster and three debuting artists.
The "Great Works of Art" concert will be held at The First Congregational Church, 108 Sound Beach Avenue in Old Greenwich, Connecticut. A snow date is reserved for Saturday, March 8 at 8:00pm. Ticket prices are $30 for adults, $25 for senior citizens and $15 for students. Tickets may be purchased from Gateway's website at www.gatewayclassical.org or at the door beginning one hour prior to performance.
Gateway's performances with full orchestra have received enthusiastic response by audiences in Connecticut and New York and have been described in reviews as 'thrilling,' 'compelling,' 'a revelation,' 'unforgettable,' and 'amazing.'
Conducting the Gateway 50 plus piece orchestra will be Artistic Director, Ida Angland. Ms. Angland has conducted numerous operas and symphonic works, including Verdi's Requiem. Her conducting has received numerous accolades and has been described as having "inner genius, flair, idealism and grit". Of the Verdi Requiem, it was said, 'The soft opening notes took one into a spiritual realm that grew and reached heights and depths that only a sorcerer could delve. Ida Angland was able to open the doors of hell and make us feel the heat then just as quickly bring us the mercy and forgiveness we seek. The orchestra literally wept in the Lacrymosa. Never have I heard it so powerfully done.'
Returning soloists are sopranos Rosa D'Imperio, who sang the title role in Gateway's performance of Aida, and Halley Gilbert, who sang last year in Gateway's Highlights concert; mezzo-sopranos Valeria Girardi, who sang the role of Maddalena in Gateway's 2007 production of Rigoletto, and Gulnara Mitzanova, who sang the title role of Carmen in Gateway's 2005 production; tenor Hamid Rodriguez, baritone Ricardo Rosa and bass Stephan Kirchgraber, who sang, respectively, the roles of Borsa, Monterone and Sparafucile in Gateway's production of Rigoletto.
Debuting soloists include sopranos Jacqueline Goldgorin and Elizabeth Beers Kataria, and tenor Christian Sebek.
The soloists will be joined by The Gateway Chorus, comprising more than 50 choristers from Connecticut, New York and New Jersey.
Gateway Classical Music Society was founded in 2004 to increase public excitement, involvement and appreciation of classical music through high impact, intimate performances in city and suburban neighborhoods and to provide opportunities for artists. Since its debut in 2004, Gateway has presented the "Great Works of Art Up Close and Personal" series, performing in smaller than conventional venues in Greenwich, Stamford and New York City. The large music masterworks presented in this series have included Aida (inaugural performance in 2004 and 2005 NY debut), Carmen, Rigoletto, the Verdi Requiem, Opera Highlights performances and symphonic works.
